1st Place!

A number of us sent in some of our stories and pieces of literature to the local library for the Annual Starwatch Creative Writing Contest. Thomas came in First in his age group for the Non-fiction category. He also came in second for the fiction category of his age group.

I came in Second in the fiction category of my group!!!! (Exciting, I know.) I also received an Honorable mention for a piece of poetry that I sent in.

In view of our glorious winnings, (2 ribbons that are on the way here via mail and a book with all the winners pieces published) we had a fantabulous cake that Mom got at Wal-Mart. It was actually quite good.

Of course, we didn't tell Thomas anything about his winning, so when we broke out the cake and started singing "For He's a Jolly good Fellow," though he was obviously enjoying it, it was apparent he was utterly confused. So, then we decided it was probably a good idea to let him know why he was being celebrated.

Based on John's question of, "When will it by MY Bir-day?" I don't think he quite understood what was going on.

I forgot to get a picture of the cake before we devoured it. And by the time I thought of it, the package it came in had already been disposed of. So, I just took a picture of the spot on the counter where the cake had once been. Here it is... Ain't it purtty? Just imagine how much better it looked when the cake was there!
