We (Mom, Marie, John and I,) drove 2 hours and 45 minutes to pick up our new milk cow and her calf. We arrived at about 12:45pm, and left at about 3:10pm. And guess what! Getting the cow and calf into the trailer was the easiest thing.
Well, to start out with the owner was an older lady who had a lot of things to do that day, and everyday for that matter, because she owns a rescue for monkeys.
It took us 2 hours to get the van and trailer through the only gate to the pasture the cow was in. First the van got stuck in a pile of junk (regular pasture deposits) that was right in front of the gate. Then the owner's husband came with his out-dated tractor and pulled us out backward. He pulled it too far and almost hit their carport that was on one side of the trailer, on the other was a fence line.
Then a whole bunch of opinions and theories were tried, (too many for me to numerate here,) and finally, a lady who worked there, and who had a lot of experience with pulling trailers, somehow got it through the gate and floored it over the heap of stuff. We were home free now.
Well, almost.
WE loaded up the cows (easy) and then the lady drove, or rather raced over the pile of goop and through the gate. Ahh. Finally, we were on our way back home. About a half hour from Tulsa, we lost a ton (not literally, of course,) of tread on one of the tires. But luckily we lost it about a mile away from one of the only gas stations on the hundred mile stretch we happened to be on at the time.
One of the truck-drivers changed our tire for us, and we had no further complications on the way home. Yea!
The first three pictures were taken around our place, and the last two were of the monkeys we didn't get. Pictures of the cow, Shelob, and her calf, Tosha, are coming soon! Have you ever milked a spider? Ha, what a coincidence! Neither have I!
We thought about getting a monkey if the lady would sell, but then we thought that we probably had enough of them already at home.
