Well, we FINALLY got those calves. In case you all have not heard this story, I shall tell it to you.
About two months ago, Mom found a ranch that sold little Jersey calves before they were weaned, and as you know that would be ideal for us because of all the extra milk we get from our cow, Gwen.
Now, the guy who owns these calves is a dairy-man, he has four barns with 250 milk cows in each, and four managers, one for each of the barns.
So, after Mom made arrangements with the owner to pick them up, (the arrangements themselves took a long time,) she was planning on leaving early in the morning for a two hours drive to Missouri where they were.
Then, right before Mom leaves, the guy calls to say he can't do it today because one of his managers didn't show up. Now he has 250 cows who have mastitis, he is out $12,000 because he can't use any of the milk but he still has to continue milking them.
So, mom make arrangement to come a different day. The day comes when she has to leave and again she gets a call, this time from his wife saying, her husband got kicked in the chest by one of the cows and was being taken to the hospital.
We found out later that he had two broken ribs and a collapsed lung. But he is alright now. He found a replacement manager, but not long was he in charge before the same cow kicked him in the jaw and he has a dislocated jaw. Needless to say the owner decided that the cows looked better for meat.
They make arrangements with Mom to come a different day. Finally she was on her way, 10 minutes from the guy's place she calls him to let him know where she was and he said he couldn't make it because he is a hour away because his son was sick. And because of state laws he has to sell the calves to Mom. So Mom comes back home. The poor guy. He has had such a bad streak of luck, I mean first one thing then another, then another!
So FINALLY, Mom was able top get them today, we got two heifers and one bull. And they are soooo cute!

I'm not good at names, but I like the names Ellie and Felicity. There's also "Jersey" which makes a nice name.
Jersey? For the bull? How origanal, millacuna. LOL!
How about Caesar or Thor, maybe Bullimaximus or Nebuchadnezzar. Basically you should pick Roman names, or make them Roman by adding -maximus to the end. Names of gods or evil kings is also good.
Yeah, I can just imagine John trying to pronounce Nebuchadnezzar. Or me, for that matter.
I like Thor. It is a very bullish name.
So we finally named 2 of them; Stella, and Thor. They are so cute together.
Well, what do you know! We changed a name again.
The bull's name is still Thor, but Stella is changed to Raina instead, and the other heifer is Wyn.
Thor, Raina and Wyn. Pretty Good, Huh?
Wow, I can't believe you actually named one Thor. That's awesome!
Um, well, Jacob......How shall I put it?
Not to disappoint or anything, but it's kind of a tradition we are starting, to name a cow, and them 6hours later change the name to something completly different.
so, unfortunately 'Thor' changed to 'Sir Guy'.
But! Wait! Here is the GOOD news. We are going to get another Hiland bull,(eventually) and definitely
name him Thor. It will suit his breed really well.
