The Little Scientist

On our way to the New Year's party Saturday evening, John and Daniel were excitedly conversing about the prospective of John becoming an inventor and owning his own laboratory.
"John! Don't you want Dad as one of your scientists?" Daniel asks emphatically.

"Oh! Yes! Yes!" John replies without hesitation. "Dad? Could you be a scientist for me?"
"Sure John," Dad answered.
But John continues, "Could you make me a light blue jet pack and a light green jet pack, and a light blue rocket boots and a light green rocket boots?" His cute little voice was squeaky with excited anticipation.
"No problem, John as long as you fund the research."
"Oh........(he pauses, obviously trying to figure out what that meant) so, I have to find the book first?" John queried.
"No, you just have to fund the research."
"Oh....(he sounded a little enlightened) what do dat mean?" It is hard to describe the absolute adorableness of John's voice and do it justice.
"It means you have to pay for everything."
"Oh noooooo. Den I cand do it." His tone was full of disappointment.
"That's ok John, it just means that you can't do it tomorrow, but one day you might."
"Actooly Dad, we can do it tomorrow! I WILL find the money!" which was pretty much the concluding statement for that conversation.

But of course, by now he has already forgotten about it. :)
