One day, while I was working, one of my co-worker made a joke about me doing customer service all the time - even in my dreams. My immediate thought was "No, way. It's not fun enough to dream about." But I laughed at it all the same.
That night, in the middle of it, I was suddenly aroused by my own voice saying, "I'm sorry, could you repeat that question one more time?"** I was utterly confused. The first thing I did was look at the clock. But that didn't really help clean up the confusion - it said it was 2:00 in the morning! Why would a customer call so early! Wait. Was I supposed to call her back? Did I forget?! (Slight panic settling in now.) It was all very confusing for about 5 seconds. Then it all started to come together. In my discombobulated head I finally figured out I had just been dreaming and didn't hear my own thought for what their question was. My co-worker was right. I went back to sleep easily enough, hoping this wouldn't be a common occurrence. Perhaps I just did a little too much in customer service that day.
**In the interest of clarity, and for the sake of not giving the wrong impression, I don't regularly have to ask a customer to repeat their question - that's not something I can do in my sleep out of habit. I am sure the reason why I didn't quite hear it this time was because I was too tired to think by myself of the question that they would have to ask me.
